This stool is the result of our latest collaboration with the Gold of Bengal collective. “Bermudes” is a stackable seat in natural-fiber reinforced composite, in this case, jute fiber. For over ten years, Gold of Bengal has been promoting these ecological and highly performant materials across various fields of application. Their goal is to open a new range of possibilities for jute, providing Bengali workers with more opportunities to work with this abundant local material. This object was created as a manifesto to showcase the remarkable qualities of jute, which is more affordable, ecological, and aesthetically pleasing than traditional synthetic materials like glass or carbon fiber. We aim to encourage industries and investors to explore the many applications of this material. The stool’s design is pure and sober, with a simple play of lines and curves that give it inherent mechanical strength while preserving a sensual and sculptural overall form.
